Speaking of systems, like that, on several occasions in the last 20 years, maybe longer, an ad will say, “Make a million dollars, send $1 for complete kit,” and what you get in return for the $1 is a copy of the ad that you answered, plus the permission to run it with your name and address on it.

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. For instance, here’s an ad copy title that boasts, “$100-a-day!” This is basically a mail order sales pitch, telling you to either sell information by mail, or as one company suggested, clipping artwork from your newspaper, assembling them together on a clean 8 ½ x 11 piece of paper, photocopying it and selling it by means of classified ads advertising it as, “Clip art,” raking-in $2-per-shot. 50 orders = $100-a-day.

Speaking of systems, like that, on several occasions in the last 20 years, maybe longer, an ad will say, “Make a million dollars, send $1 for complete kit,” and what you get in return for the $1 is a copy of the ad that you answered, plus the permission to run it with your name and address on it. You do likewise. According to Postal authorities, they are trying to crack-down on these money-making pirates. So what do these people do? Add some filler and increase the price. This is the biggest problem with, “Get Rich Quick,” plans. These people are just playing the numbers racket.

“$100,000-a-year.” Doing what? Selling mailing lists to businesses or mail order houses. Actually, this is a service that is always in short demand. Retailers, service organizations and mail order houses are constantly looking for new names to send their publicity or offers to. If you have a mailing list now, or can run specific ads that appeal to a specific clientele that will allow you to have their name and mailing address, you can stand to make money doing this. $100,000-a-year, not likely, but possible.

“Be a millionaire in four weeks.” Too good to be true? Bingo. But you can appear to be a millionaire in four weeks, the program’s simple, form a corporation in Delaware. Why Delaware? Because they require no proof of capitalization, therefore, you can issue yourself one thousand shares of stock and assign a value of $1000 to each share. But I have a better idea… Having problems getting a loan from the bank because you have a lousy net-worth balance sheet? Why not form a corporation in Delaware and add, say, $15,000 in stock in your corporation to the balance sheet? This could increase your chances of getting a loan, if you’re already in business.

“Make One Million Dollars In Mail Order.” You’ve seen all of the ads, they’ve been running them for years. There are hundreds of plans available and our members have reviewed many of them. Some offer merchandise drop-shipping, some book-selling. Others offer money-making plans or money-saving plans and for an additional fee, you can purchase the reprint rights.

Many of the plans that offer reprint rights for a fee don’t even have the rights to sell them. What someone has done somewhere down the line is design new covers and titles for booklets that have been the government agencies, like, the Small Business Administration. These booklets, because they have been written by and for government agencies are in the public domain. That means they have no copyright and anyone can reproduce them, even charge money for them.

If you are going to do this, save yourself the money, go to the library and check out the booklet yourself and photocopy it. Although this is very unglamorous, I’m afraid that it is legal. If you feel that you must start this way, after you have obtained some operating capital, walk away from this product and write something yourself, or hire someone else to.

Peddling public domain literature can be very damaging to your reputation as a publisher.

When you’ve written your book or program, waste no time in copyrighting it.

And ideal way of adding profits to your existing business is to incorporate some sort of mail order. If you have a retail store, you may have a product that will sell well through the mail. If your business is a service related business, you can write a program that will teach others what you have done. These types of things work best in mail order.

In mail order, all you are doing is to appeal to the largest possible market. If your advertising is seen by enough people, someone’s bound to send you an order. The profitability of such a program will depend of how you have to spend on advertising to make it worth it.

Remember, if you write something, copyright it. Just go to your local library and they will help you take care of it. It’s inexpensive and gives you the protection backed up by the FBI. Think of it as a small fee that puts the FBI to work for you.

In fact, therein lies another moneymaking plan. Let’s say that you act as a finder… a finder for what we call, “Pirates.” What pirates do, is to copy copyrighted material and they offer it for sale. Let’s say that someone is doing this, like this book, for instance, is copyrighted. It would be illegal for someone else to copy it and to distribute it.

If you think that someone is doing that, then you can write our United States publisher and see if they will give you a percentage – a finder’s fee – based on your information leading to the people who are distributing it… and the United States government has been very successful in obtaining large judgements against these people.

So, even if your percentage was small, you could still make a bundle of money.

If you see anyone copying, selling or distributing any copyrighted or patented product unauthorized, contact the publisher, make a deal, and make some well-deserved cash.

We hear about plans they have sent for promising unlimited wealth potential. If you have spent money for money-making, “secrets,” you know what we’re talking about.

The funny thing is, there are no money making, “secrets.”

Many of our members have spent as much as $500.00 for these so-called secrets. It is a sad thing when one of our members is seduced by a clever advertising campaign that is nothing more than a re-telling of a system that he’s already spent $39.00 on.

We’re going to give you the basic facts of these, “programs,” no filler, no hype.

The headline reads, “Make $50,000-a-week.” The order form says, “Send $12.95, plus $2.00 postage for our complete money-making kit.”

This is the same program that says, “Make $50,000-a-week stuffing envelopes.” The kit includes 1,000 circulars that you put your rubber-stamped name and address on. Then you send them to a name list that you must purchase. You pay postage and when the orders come in, you subtract your commission and forward the orders with the remaining funds to your supplier who fills your order.

Someone, somewhere may have made $50,000 in a particular week, we doubt that you will.

If these circulars are so, “hot,” and there’s so much money in this, why doesn’t the company do it themselves?

This plan has been around for at least fifteen years. If there are people out there making at this, let them. Save your money and put it somewhere more lucrative.

“Make $20,000 in one day.” While it is possible, there are many companies selling this so-called, “secret,” and doing quite well as they come up with new ways to promote this plan. Basically, you are a, “finder.” You watch the classifieds and you look for businesses or homes for sale, or any other high-ticket item. Then you find a buyer. You then make a commission on the sale for getting the two parties together. Obviously you can’t make $20,000 every day, but on a very large sale, you could collect $20,000, and although you will collect the money in one day, you can bet that you’ve spent several days arranging the meeting.

This one’s been headlined as, “Establish AAA credit,” or, “Borrow $20,000 regardless of current credit rating.” Granted, this system works, but I’ll tell you the details and let you decide for yourself…

It’s what we call, “The Bank Round Robin.” You put $500 in a savings account, borrow against your savings, then go to another bank. You deposit the $500 in a savings account, borrow $500 against it, and on and on, until you’ve establish a total of $20,000 in, “credit,” by doing the same thing in reverse.

Paying off all the loans, with your savings plus a little interest. Again, pretty much this works, and there are some snags that you can run into along the way. Remember, ideally this would work, but all banks are not created equal and you can waste a lot of time and a lot of money trying to play this game. You’re better off trying something else.

“Get $50,000 cash using credit cards.” This is a shirt-tailed cousin of the Bank Round Robin. You apply for a credit card, and when you get one, you apply for another one just like it, and then another, and another… Then you could get a cash advance on the maximum credit limit per card. Each time you apply, you get a different number. Theoretically, you could have a Visa card with a $1,000 limit, ten Visa cards would be $10,000, plus your ten Mastercards, your ten American Express cards, your ten Discover cards, you can go on and on… This is a high-risk way of raising capital and likewise, high-risk for the credit card companies. I hate to think how this plan affects the interest rates on my charge cards.

“Make $2000-an-hour,” wouldn’t that be nice? Sure it would. Let’s send these people $12.95 plus $2 postage and make $2,000-an-hour. What do you get for your $14.95? Eighteen photo-copied pages telling you that you can make $2,000 an hour in finders’ fees by obtaining a list of names in your State of beneficiaries that have not claimed the estate of a distant relative, or some other kind of unclaimed funds.

You find the beneficiary and collect your fee, let’s say, $2,000, for putting the person together with the money.

If you can find this person in an hour, you would be better off as a Private Investigator.

The members that have written to us about this program say that they have been waiting in line for as much as two months just to see these lists.

Those are the fact, according to our research, but what do you think? Write us and let us know.

Many of our members are already in business, and the rest of you will be. The next important move for you to make is called, “diversification.”

You want to take your wealth, no matter how great or how small, and spread it around. You don’t want to get caught with all your eggs in one basket.

Two things to keep in mind in diversification, the first is: Diversify Upward.

This means that your next business should cost more than the one that you’re in now. We suggest ten times more. The more your initial outlay, the more potential for profits.

Upward diversification is less important when you’re a millionaire but it’s much more important when you’re on your way.

The second thing to keep in mind is to diversify your market appeal.

In your present business, you are appealing to a certain clientele… In your next project you want to diversify your market. You need a new set of customers. While there may be some cross-market appeal, you will need more people… different people.

Like I’ve stressed before, and it cannot be repeated too often, you do not want to be caught with all your eggs in one basket.

If business in one area starts to fall off, you can sell, bail out, or if it is that important to you, you can use money from one (more profitable) business to support the other.

Let’s take a look at a real example at how this works:

Don is a week-end, back-yard mechanic, currently working at his local cola bottling company. Tired of working at the same job day-in and day-out, no way to advance up the corporate ladder, he starts his own business.

Don’s first business is an auto repair business that makes house calls, using his personal truck and canopy. This is his first business, so he’s keeping seventy-five percent of the profits, and spending the other twenty-five percent. Since he had all the tools and the truck to begin with, his expenses are kept to a minimum. His rate was the same as the standard shop-rate.

Using the percent system, he accumulated his $5,000.00 quickly, but this can take nine months, or longer.

Don has $5,000.00 in the bank and he has his eye on a small bookstore near a rural area run by an elderly woman, and it just so happens that he can buy the store for $3,500.00.

Now, he’s keeping in mind that he’s going to spend $5,000.00, so that leaves him $1,500.00 to upgrade the store.

So he buys the store, hires a mechanic for going on calls for business number one, closes the doors of the shop that he just bought for two weeks while he renovates. Puts in new fixtures, paints the walls, and buys new books.

While he’s remodeling all the windows are covered with butcher paper, with large letters announcing that an all-new store will be opening March first.

He also placed a small note on the door saying, “In case of emergency, Call…” with his name and number on it. He got some concerned calls from previous customers wondering where the previous owner was? He politely assured them that she was fine and that he was going to do his upmost to give them the same service, and then some.

He invited them to come down on opening day and said that he would give them fifty-percent off of anything in stock. That in itself was going to assure a fairly good turnout, then he received a call that he didn’t expect…

It was a call from a local newspaper reporter who wanted to interview him. Needless to say, March first turned out to be a huge success.

So, he’s in business number two. How much money does he spend and how much money does he save to put toward business number three?

In this phase, you spend thirty percent and you save seventy percent. You worked hard for it. Now you’re getting a raise and the dollar amounts will be larger.

How much does Don spend on business number three?

$50,000.00

Then you work your way to a million, and by this point, you’re well on your way.

The first million is always the hardest, but the second, third, fourth… come quickly and easily, as long as you keep applying these principals.

This is what your achievement chart should look like:

BUSINESS
#

% PROFIT
TO SPEND

% PROFIT
TO SAVE

1

25

75

2

30

70

3

38

62

4

55

45

5

85

15

In your first business venture you should spend only twenty-five percent of the profits, leaving seventy-five percent to go towards your next business. In your second business you spend thirty percent , you’re also allowing yourself to spend an additional five percent from your first business, saving seventy percent from both businesses combined.

In business number three, the spending amount goes up to thirty-eight percent. After you start business number four, you are now saving less than half to re-invest.

And finally, in your fifth venture, you are now re-investing fifteen percent and taking home a whopping eighty-five percent.

It is easy to see that by following these basic principles, that you would be making in excess of one million dollars by this time.

Copy this chart and put it somewhere that you can see if often, it will help you keep on-track.

If you want more tips on advertising and promotion of your business, you can get our free report called, “Marketing.” It covers everything from advertising budgets all the way from a few dollars to in excess of a million dollars.

Let’s say your first business venture costs less than $500.00 to start. How much should you spend on your second business? $5,000.00.

Where does the $5,000.00 come from? Now, you hear a lot in business circles about using, “other people’s money,” or OPM. We say, “wrong.”

We’re about to introduce you to a new concept in business financing called, “Self Financing.”

Start small and parlay your profits into millions.

As soon as you start your new business, start saving the profits. Remember, your next business is going to cost you $5,000.00.

Diversification is the key. If you’re going to become a millionaire, you’re not likely to become one washing cars. So, how much do you save towards your diversification plan?

Naturally, you’re going to have to spend some of the money you are making. We say, spend twenty-five percent of the profits that you are making now. That leaves seventy-five percent to save toward your next venture.

So you’re saving seventy-five percent of your profits… Where do you put it? First, a simple savings account at your local bank. As you accumulate money in your savings account, ask your banker where the best place to put it would be?

We suggest a flexible-rate annuity. That might be something that you might want to check into.

Be sure to shop for your flexible-rate annuity. Here are some features to look for:

Make sure that you are making interest on 100 percent of your money. Don’t let them take out commissions or fees for starting this program.

Don’t buy into a flexible-rate annuity unless you can make full, or partial, withdrawals at any time.

You also need to check to see what the maximum amount that you can deposit per year.

What’s the big deal about a flexible-rate annuity? You earn interest on your money and you don’t have to pay taxes on it until you withdraw it.

Getting your money into a safe place, that meets these guidelines, is the first step in self-financing.

If an adequate annuity is not available, a CD (certificate of deposit) will do.

Now that you’ve got your money in a safe place, you’ve got your business selected for phase two of your capital gains program… Now you withdraw the money from your account, right?

Wrong. The key in self-financing is to borrow the money… And who better to borrow it from, than from yourself?

Remember, never touch the security that you have in your account.

Instead, get a loan from the bank, using your account as collateral.

Again, shop for the best deal. Try to get the smallest of payments with the lowest interest rate.

What? Your bank won’t do it? Let me tell you, there are many banks out there that want to do business with you.

The answer is simple, go somewhere else. Your bank has made a bad move, they have lost your business. This is something that they will live to regret.

Saving money in a safe place, like a simple savings account, Certificate of Deposit, IRAs and the like, is important for you to start right now. Let’s say, for example, that you’re 30-years-old, one year from today I want you to deposit $1,000.00 in your savings account. Remember, never touch this money. This is put-and-keep money, not put-and-take. The next year deposit $1,000.00 in this account and every year until your 65th birthday. You might say, “A thousand dollars a year? We like to hear stories, like this, so what is it? Well, they call it, “Midnight Auto Wash.” They got the idea by waiting in line to have their car washed, and thought, “Wouldn’t it be nice if we could just blink our eyes and have a clean car?” They thought, “Why don’t we wash people’s cars while they sleep?” They went to the library and found a list of people that lived within a five-block radius, and got their phone numbers. They called each one and offered a free car wash, while the customer slept. A follow-up call afterwards offered a weekly car wash at $10.00 each. 80% of the follow-up calls signed up. Now there’s a good business idea. Using that simple formula: find a need, then fill it.

Print business cards for your business and get them into as many hands as you can. You would be surprised how many jobs come from referrals that were initiated by a business card. You can promote your business by passing out flyers.

A lot of businesses start out with 3 ½ x 5 cards placed on the local community bulletin board in your local health food stores, churches, laundry mats and the like…

Every time you complete a job and/or have a happy customer, ask them for the name and phone number of someone who might be interested in what you have to offer. In this manner, each customer leads to another, ad infinitum.

Think of ways to, “give away,” your services. For example, you could enter into an arrangement with a non-profit organization to promote your service in exchange for rendering your services to the non-profit for no charge, or alternatively you would donate a percentage of all sales made by the organization to them.

Have a contest where the prize is your product or service (or a free add-on service). Just as a method to trigger your inner idea machine, a local candy shop allows each customer to spin a Wheel of Fortune-style wheel. The customer receives the gift (usually an additional piece of candy) indicated by the wheel.

You might consider partnering with another company, like the video rental store who partnered with a pizza storefront that offered a free video rental (rent 1, get 1 free) with each pizza delivered.

Become an instructor in your field of expertise. You may be able to teach at local libraries, community colleges, schools and/or parks departments. The standard arrangement for their promoting your class includes a percentage of class fees split with the organizing agency. Every student is either a potential client or referral source.

You can advertise your business wherever you go, whatever you do, by putting appropriate signage on your automobile, and/or wearing a tee shirt featuring your business.

We encourage you to, “give it your all.” After you’ve done that, we’d like to hear about your success. So, please let us know how it’s going.

What cheap (or free) resources have you used successfully promoting your business?
